Awakougeiza – jōruri puppet theatre
This theatre company has been staging the traditional Japanese puppet show called awa ningyo-jōruri since 1993. Awa ningyo-jōruri is a traditional art of the Tokushima Prefecture – Awa being the old name of Tokushima – played with the shamisen music instrument and with an original narration. The Awakougeiza company tries to protect and develop this traditional art, performing it all over Japan, the USA and southeast Asia. During the Japan Week they wish to share their puppet show with all visitors.

Yaeyama – traditional music group – folk music from the Yaeyama Islands
The group, coming from the Ishigakijima Island in the Okinawa Prefecture, aims to spread and preserve the traditional Yaeyama Islands folk songs. Each island has its own traditional songs, telling the feelings of its inhabitants. The group teaches Yaeyama folk songs and Sanshin music instruments and actively participates in many events throughout Japan. During the Japan Week, they would like to introduce the wonderful nature and culture of Okinawa through the Yaeyama folk songs.

Mika Kobayashi – piano and singing
Singer and song writer from the Hiroshima Prefecture, she sings and plays piano with shows and tours in Japan and Europe. Appreciated vocalist, she participated in many soundtracks such as in the Final Fantasy XI videogame, and in the Attack of Titans, Gundam UC and Aldnoah. Zero animations.

Cocoroiki – yosakoi dance
Cocoriki is a yosakoi dancing team located in Kyoto exhibiting at festivals and events all over Japan. During the Japan Week they will perform the yukari dance telling the story of Sugawara Michizane, a famous scholar and poet who lived 1000 years ago. The Kitano Tenmangu shrine in Kyoto was built to honour his memory. The team will do their best to show yosakoi dance fun and joy hoping to grab the hearts of the audience.

Kottsu Japan – Japanese drums
Group of Japanese drummers, founded in 1996 and currently counting 30 members. They perform Japanese drums in theatres, nursery schools, elementary and junior high schools, as well as in festivals. Their tradition is greatly appreciated by both performers and the audience, and they would like Torino citizens to enjoy their lively performances.
